Touchdown for reading

The “Super Bowl Book Challenge” was successful at Romney Elementary School during the month of February. The challenge went down to the wire for the Delaplain Sharks, Pancione Pythons and Walker’s Warriors. The Pancione Pythons emerged victorious. During February, the school challenge was to read Caldecott and Newbery Award winning books. Caldecott Award books scored 1 football and Newbery Award books scored football(s) according to the book page count. The total footballs scored was 1, 341. The pictured chart hung in the main hall. In the morning, you could see the kids gathered around it to see who was ahead. A funny ha-ha occurred when a 2nd grade teacher told some of the 3rd grade Pancione Pythons that they had a plan to win. Then the third graders were asking everyone what was the second grade plan.

The winning team was to choose a class party of their choice. However, the most important thing was everyone was reading, sharing and talking about books.
