Mary Ruth Alger, 70, of Romney, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born on March 8, 1946, at Spruce Pines, NC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Buchanan and Ruth Pittman Buchanan. She was preceded in death by a son, Sullivan Alger III; and 2 brothers.
She was a child of God and attended Tearcoat Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by her husband, Sullivan Alger II; 6 daughters: Vanessa Carter (and Robert), Evelyn Alderman (and Jesse), both of Slanesville, Sherry Alger (and Clayton Harbaugh), of Winchester, Loretta Storey (and Justin), Samantha Smith (and Brian), both of Augusta, and Mildred “Little Mary” Hilton (and Jimmy), of Cumberland; 6 sons: Anthony Wayne Alger (and Barbara), Wade Edward Alger (and April Wasson), both of Augusta, Daniel Lee Alger (and Vanessa), Tyler William Alger, both of Romney, Robert Lee Alger, of Slanesville, and David Lee Alger (and Ciara), of Yellow Springs; 40 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her step-mother, Edith Pittman of Charlottesville, Va.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at McKee Funeral Home in Augusta. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at the funeral home. All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home in Augusta.
