Carl Edwards Duke Sr., 85, of Palmyra and formerly of Perkasie, Pa., passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016, at his home. 

Born in Capon Springs, he was the son of the late Edna A. Himelwright LaFollette. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry L. Duke, in 1975.

He was the husband of Martha “Marty” A. Yothers Duke and they celebrated their 39th Wedding Anniversary on December 16, 2015. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and he attained the rank of Sergeant while serving with the Third Infantry Division Mortar Company from 1951 to 1954. He also worked in the Maintenance Department and as a truck driver for Solar Atmospheres in Souderton, Pa. for many years until retiring in 1995. He attended Community Bible Church in Palmyra and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his wife spent 6 years traveling full-time in their RV across the United States as well as throughout Alaska and Canada.

Surviving with his wife are 4 sons, Carl E. Duke Jr. and his wife Carol of Coopersburg, Pa., Patrick L. Duke and his wife Denise of Perkasie, Troy E. Duke and his wife Debbie of Coopersburg, and Christopher S. Duke and his wife Marion, also of Coopersburg; 2 stepsons, Daryl Rice of Statesboro, Ga. and Randy Rice and his wife Beth of Quakertown, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifton Himelwright of Winchester, Va.; and a sister, Yvonne Cooper of Capon Springs. 

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Bernard Suess Funeral Home in Perkasie, Pa.  Interment followed with full military honors in Beulah Cemetery in New Britain, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 111 S. Independence Mall East #500, Philadelphia, Pa., 19106 or to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, Pa., 17110.

Arrangements were handled by Bernard Suess Funeral Home in Perkasie, Pa.
