Garland Bernett Poland, 84, of Fort Ashby, WV, formerly of Romney, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Western Maryland Health System.

Born on June 11, 1935 in Romney, he was the son of the late Nelson and Myrtle (Pultz) Poland.

Garland was the assistant manager for the A&P grocery store in Romney and a member of Maranatha Baptist Church. He was a former winner of the Golden Horseshoe in Hampshire Co. Schools.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley M. Poland; a son, Maxwell Poland and a stepson, Eddie Cox.

Surviving is his wife, Brenda Morris Poland; two daughters, Kim Poland of Romney, Rowanne Shockey of Augusta; a son, Paul Poland of Junction City, KY; a brother, Gerald Poland (Barbara) of Wilmington, DE; a sister, Genevieve Culbert of Glendale, NY; five step-children, Shari Heath of Paw Paw, Tina Kuykendall of Ridgeley, Francis Self of Fort Ashby, Karen Emerick of Slanesville, Carol Webb of Nararre, FL; five foster children, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, 2019 in McKee Funeral Home Chapel, 115 E. Birch Lane Romney, WV with Pastor Kenneth Caplinger officiating.

All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Romney.
