ELEANOR, W.Va. (AP) — The fire chief in Eleanor has died after his all-terrain vehicle crashed during a fundraising event in Webster County.

Assistant Fire Chief David Turley tells media outlets that Shane Jividen was participating in a poker run to benefit the Webster County Volunteer Fire Department on Sunday. During a poker run, ATV and motorcycle riders check in with people stationed along the course and draw a card at each stop. The rider with the best poker hand at the end wins.

Turley says Jividen’s ATV was found overturned over an embankment. The chief was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Hospital, where he died late Sunday afternoon.
