CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Thousands of utility customers remain without power after severe storms rolled through parts of southern West Virginia.

Appalachian Power’s website says about 3,300 customers had no electrical service Thursday, including 1,900 in Kanawha County.

The storms caused a hillside to collapse in South Charleston, and media outlets report several people had to be rescued from high water in Kanawha County.

The weather service says more storms were expected Thursday that could bring local downpours, although no widespread flash flooding is anticipated.
