CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Mingo County judge and a county commissioner under federal indictment have pleaded not guilty.
Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury and Mingo County Commissioner Dave Baisden were arraigned separately Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dwayne Tinsley in Charleston.
Last week a federal grand jury charged Thornsbury with two conspiracy counts. He’s accused of having an affair with his secretary and trying to frame her husband for several crimes, including drug possession, larceny and assault.
Baisden was charged with extortion in an unrelated federal case. He’s accused of pulling a local dealer’s county contract when the company refused to provide Baisden with discounted tires for a personal vehicle.
Both men remain free on bond. Thornsbury’s trial is set for Oct. 15 and Baisden’s is scheduled for Oct. 21.
