DAVIS, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia is 49th among the states when it comes to craft beer production. But advocates of the growing industry say there’s another statistic worth noting: That production jumped 23 percent between 2011 and 2012.

West Virginia Public Broadcasting says that puts the state in 26th place for growth.

Kate Lane is manager of Mountain State Brewing and helped organize the recent Brew Skies Festival in Davis.

She says there’s eight operating breweries and about the same number in planning. That’s partly because a 2009 law raised the limit on the alcohol content from 6 percent to 12 percent.

Adam Myers of Lost River Brewing in Wardensville says the opportunity for growth is limitless.

He says breweries attract visitors, and that influx of people is good even for competitors.
