ROMNEY — The city water department will be flushing fire hydrants in town this week.

When hydrants are flushed the water discolors. Discolored or turbulent water is not harmful to people’s health, the city said.

Residents should check both hot and cold water for discoloration before doing any laundry or dishwashing. If water is discolored, house lines should be flushed through all available spigots until the water runs clear.

The state health department requires periodic flushing of hydrants.

The water department said it regrets any inconvenience to the city’s water customers during the flushing and that it appreciates the cooperation of customers.
