MARTINSBURG — A Martinsburg man was on his way to meet an 11-year-old girl when he arrested just 100 yards from Lambert Park Pool here, the West Virginia State Police say.
Wade Eugene Decker, 25, was apprehended without incident Tuesday by the state police’s Crimes Against Children Unit. Police said he walking to meet the girl for continued sexual exploitation.
Decker’s arrest capped a 2-week collaborative investigation between investigators with the New Bern, N.C., Police Department and the West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit.
Police said Decker established an “ongoing dialogue” with the girl and an undercover officer. Decker allegedly sent sexually explicit photos to the juvenile victim and also expressed repeated desires to engage in sexual intercourse with her. Additionally, they said, Decker attempted to obtain nude photographs from the girl.
Decker was charged with solicitation of a minor using a computer, the display of obscene matter to a minor, the use of obscene matter to seduce a minor and the attempted use of a minor to produce obscene matter.
He was arraigned in Berkeley County Magistrate Court and is being held in the Easatern Panhandle Regional Jail on $175,000 cash or surety bond.
Decker’s arrest was assisted by members of the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, the U.S. Marshal Service and members of the West Virginia State Police Criminal Interdiction Patrol Unit.
