DAVIS — A ceremonial groundbreaking takes place at 1:15 this afternoon for the next 20-mile section of Corridor H.
Work is already underway on the segment which will extend the 4-lane road west from Scherr in Grant County to Davis, the Tucker County town that is the home to Blackwater Falls. The new route generally parallels Route 93 and could be completed by the end of the year.
The new section links to road that extends east to Wardensville. A western section, between Elkins and I-79 at Weston has been in place for more than 30 years. Now all that remains is a controversial section linking Davis and Elkins, delayed by costs and worries about environmental impact on some of West Virginia’s most delicate and breathtaking terrain.
The groundbreaking is part of a Corridor H Authority meeting being held at the Canaan Valley Institute. Updates on the corridor an dnew information on the construction timetable are on the agenda.
