PAW PAW, W.Va. — Avalon Resort will be part of a national effort this weekend to break a world record, au natural. The West Virginia resort in Hampshire County will be part of a national effort to set the world skinny dipping record at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13.
“We’re tryinig to get as many people in to the outdoor pool as we can possibly squeeze in,” said resort COO John Kennedy.
The only requirement is you must be without apparell. In 2010 Avalon and other organizations affiliated with AANR across North America set the skinny-dip record at The Guinness World Records® Skinny-Dip for the largest number of people simultaneously in the water without swimsuits. The record set for the number of ‘skinny-dippers’ was 14,110. Of that number, 242 were in the pool at Avalon. The event this weekend will hopefully set a new record.
Skinny-dippers are in good company as Ben Franklin, John Quincy Adams and Theodore Roosevelt were three of our country’s most notorious and notable skinny-dippers. Ben Franklin wrote about his enjoyment of being clothes-free and the benefits he felt he got from his ‘air baths’.
Avalon is a “clothing optional” resort. Kennedy said the idea is to turn the weekend into an open house and introduce people to life without inhibitions. But he adds, there’s no pressure to completely disrobe.
