Ronald Alexander Ponchak, 73, of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Augusta, passed away unexpectedly June 7, 2013, at his Florida residence.
Born June 20, 1939, in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of the late Alexander and Dorothy Ponchak.
He leaves a loving family behind to celebrate his life: his wife of 28 years, Candy; his son, Ronald and wife, Andrea Ponchak, of New Canaan, Conn; daughter, Sharon Boegel and husband Ralph, of Marlborough, Mass.; a brother, Gerard Ponchak and wife Julie, of New Windsor, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Alex and Sophia Ponchak; and a stepson, Bud Thomas and wife Crystal, of Greenville, S.C.
He was a 1961 graduate of LeMoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y., and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. After a long successful career in the floor-covering industry, “Ponch” retired to the simple life of summers on the farm in West Virginia and golf during the winter months in Bonita Springs. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, he was also a Life Member of the NRA. He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, Bonita Springs, where he served as an outside Eucharistic minister, and Our Lady of Grace, Romney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Romney, with Father Joseph M. Augustine, HGN, officiating.
Inurnment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Augusta.
