Tommy Gainey and Johnson Wagner both shot -8 through the first 18 holes and lead after day 1 of the 4th Greenbrier Classic.

Tour favorite Phil Mickelson had a rough go of it Thursday, especially with a triple bogey on 17 and finished at +4. Unless he has some magic up his sleeve this morning, Mickelson will likely miss the cut for the 3rd straight time here.

Other well known golfers faired better on Thursday. 2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson had a successful round at -2, and 2012 U.S. Open winner Webb Simpson shot -6 and sits in 3rd place going into Friday’s 2nd round.

After a slight rain the weather was beautiful and the golf was low scoring. After Friday’s round the pairs for the weekend will be set and over half the golfers will be sent home.

Check back tomorrow morning for an update from the course.
