ROMNEY — Off-road diesel fuel or heating oil was detected pouring into Romney’s wastewater treatment plant by way of the sanitary main line Wednesday.

There is no public safety risk at this time, the city said this morning (Thursday).

The city is requesting all businesses or homes that maintain diesel tanks or heating oil systems to immediately check for possible leaks flowing into the Romney sewer lines.

These residents, businesses or industries should report the status of their systems, whether at occupied or abandoned sites, to the Romney wastewater treatment plant at 304-822-3638 or 304-822-0086, or online at Romney wwtp@hotmail.com.
