The Hampshire County Board of Education held a regular meeting on Monday, June 3, at the central office.
All board members were in attendance.
Board members approved the agenda.
There were no appearances.
II. Opening of bids:
Board members opened bids for a walk-in freezer. (Calculations and a recommendation will be brought back to board members at their next regular meeting.)
A. Ruth Rowan, House of Delegates, recognized the following students for their achievement in the History Bowl: Abigail Nester, Colin Graham, Caleb Nelson, Justin Bruchey, Kamden Ludwig, John Mayfield, Trace Kesner, Alex Kimble and Gage Stump.
B. Brenda Omps, Chrysalis Learning Center teacher, gave the end-of-year report.
Heather Wolford, Romney Middle School student, achieved 1st place in the Young Writer’s contest.
V. Approval of board minutes:
Board members approved the May 30, 2013, board of education minutes.

Board members approved the following consent agenda item for schools:

Board members approved the following consent agenda items for personnel:
1. Transfer Erica Kimble to grade 3 teacher at Romney Elementary.
Re-employ Janel Bowers as a grade 1 teacher at Capon Bridge Elementary.
2. Resignations of professional personnel:
Jessica Wysopal, science teacher at Hampshire High School.
Lacey Wallace, itinerant music teacher at John J. Cornwell Elementary, Springfield-Green Spring Elementary and Slanesville Elementary.
Melissa Bayer, math teacher at Hampshire High.
3. Transfer and employment of service personnel:
Transfer Mark Shanholtz to custodian II at Hampshire High.
Remove from the transfer list and reassign Nancy Lee as an itinerant classroom aide/transportation aide at Hampshire High.
Remove from the transfer list and reassign Linda Gaither as an itinerant classroom aide/transportation aide/autism mentor at Capon Bridge Middle.

4. Retirement of service personnel:

5. Employment of extra curricular personnel:
Employ Jenny Carson as a homebound teacher (countywide).
Employ Jenny Carson as an after-school program tutor at the Romney Shelter.
Permission to post for an itinerant classroom aide/transportation aide for the pre-kindergarten/special needs class at Slanesville Elementary.
Permission to post for a grade 6 teacher at Romney Middle due to increased enrollment.
Permission to post for a kindergarten aide/transportation aide at Slanesville Elementary due to increased enrollment.
VII. Non-consent items:
A. Board members approved the following revised policies:
0130 – Functions, 2260 – Non-Discrimination and Access to Equal Educational Opportunity, 5830 – Student Fundraising, 6423 – Use of Credit and Purchasing Cards, 6550 – Travel Payment and Reimbursement, 6621 – Change Fund, 8402 – Expected Behavior in Safe and Supportive Schools, and 8462 – Student Abuse and Neglect.
B. Board members approved the first reading of the following new policies:
1422 – Non-Discrimination and Equal Employment Opportunity (Administration) and 2230.04 – Program of Study Intermediate Elementary Grades 3 – 4 (Program).
C. Board members awarded the custodial bid to Winans Sanitary Supply Company for $105,801.60.
D. Board members approved the extracurricular/extra duty salary schedule 4 – 1 (Mr. Hott voted no.)
