MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. — The West Virginia Good Sams Camping Organization will hold their spring Samboree (camp out/big RV Rally) May 17-19, 2013, at the Butcher Bend 4-H Fairgrounds in Mineral Wells. More than 150 RVs and more than 400 people will attend this event. At this Samboree the WV Good Sams rally theme will be Mayberry RFD.
Each night of the Samboree there will be popcorn made over the campfire. WV Good Sam assistant state director Jess McVaney will have his unique campfire popcorn popper on hand to pop corn for everyone.
Live on stage Saturday night will be the following entertainment — Sunday Drive from Knoxville, Tenn. But, if you want to hear them live on stage, you need to send in your Samboree application today. Mayberry RFD movies will be shown on Friday night.
Each WVGS Chapter is getting decorations ready for the rig-decorating contest, the Aunt Bea Fried Chicken Contest and the Mayberry Look-a-like Contest to decorate the stage. There will be an ice cream social on Friday night.
WVGS is part of the largest camping organization in the world, the Good Sam Club. Each spring and fall the WVGS gather together for a Samboree (campout) for fun and fellowship and to promote the quality RV lifestyle. Volunteer staff and WVGS Chapters work year-round to provide a well-organized event for the RV-ers.
During the long weekend there is entertainment, seminars, vendors, games, raffles, door prizes, a Chinese Auction and much more. A big hit at each Samboree is the evening campfire with popcorn made over the fire with singing and entertainment. Each WVGS Chapter has duties during the event to help the weekend run smoothly. Most WVGS Chapters also have fundraisers during the weekend for charities they support.
If you are interested in attending the Samboree, applications may be obtained on the group’s website — www.wvgoodsams.com or the group’s Facebook page — West Virginia Good Sams. Or contact Don and Kathy Wise (WVGS state directors) at firstname.lastname@example.org or 304-482-7568. Check out the WVGS Facebook page as well. Each WVGS chapter has a Facebook page as well.
Applications and WVGS Chapter information is also available at all West Virginia RV dealers. WVGS volunteer staff and chapters visit their local RV dealers on a regular basis to provide West Virginia RV dealers with Samboree applications and information on their local chapters.
There are several WVGS state chapters. During the camping season, chapters meet for monthly campouts of fun and fellowship. During the winter months many meet for a variety of fun activities. All chapters are involved in volunteer activities in their community. For more information on joining a chapter in your area or starting a new chapter in your area, please visit the group’s website — www.wvgoodsams.com or contact Don and Kathy Wise.
You are surely missing out on a great club benefit if you are not part of a local West Virginia Good Sam chapter. Chapters are groups of members who like to camp together; but camping is just part of the fun. The comradery and friendships often grow into an extended part of your family.
Many chapters just enjoy spending time with each other at local camp outs or traveling in caravans together. The pleasure most members receive from the various get–togethers is the sense of sharing a common interest, swapping travel adventures and keeping one another posted on the best routes to their RVing destinations.
Community service is another aspect many chapter memberships offer. While having fun, chapters may participate in local civic events and fund raisers for such organizations as Dogs for the Deaf, Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics and Make a Wish Foundation, just to name a few.
You will find that joining a chapter is not only enjoyable but another chance for you to use your Good Sam Club membership to its full extent. So join our chapter family and start enjoying more wonderful camping experiences.
