Clara E. “Dudie” Orndoff, 104, Romney, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Hampshire Center, Romney.
Born June 14, 1908, in Romney, she was the daughter of the late Edward Orndoff and Sarah Catherine Nealis. Also preceding her in death were an infant; two daughters, Katherine Grapes and Audrey Rowzee; and one son, Richard Hannas.
“Dudie” spent the last 10 or 11 years as a resident at Hampshire Center. She lived her entire life in Romney and was a devoted Christian, spending much time studying her Bible. She raised seven children, four of whom preceded her in death.
Many will remember her from the restaurants in which she cooked; The Green Palm, The Carlton, The New Century Hotel, The Pioneer, Mountain Top and several others.
Her life was centered on work and raising her children. She always made time for her Bible, and when time permitted, she loved to crochet and use an occasional dip of snuff.
Surviving are two sons, DeLyle E. Orndoff and wife Ruby, Augusta, and Ashby W. Orndoff, of Romney; two daughters, Pauline “Polly” Weasenforth and husband Jimmy, of Keyser, and Roxanna “Roxie” Hines of Romney; 24 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Shaffer Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 16, at 2 p.m. with the Reverends Norman Landis and Denzil Davis officiating.
Interment was in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.
