CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The state is holding an auction to sell a water buffalo and a calf found abandoned in Jackson County.
Bidding for the animals closes at 4 p.m. Thursday. The auction is being conducted by the State Agency for Surplus Property.
Residents reported seeing the water buffalo in the Evans area for several months. Department of Agriculture officials believe the animals came from a local game farm that closed last year.
The water buffalo were captured in February. They’re being kept at the Lakin State Farm in Mason County.
Agriculture officials would like to have the animals moved from state property by April 5.
