Robert Howard Alderman, 84, of Delray, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Winchester, Va.

Born Feb. 13, 1929, in Spokane, Wash., he was the son of the late Samuel and Selma Smith Alderman. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, James Alderman, Charles Alderman and Morris Alderman.

He was a carpenter, a member of the Baptist Faith and the NRA.

Surviving are six sons: Steve Alderman, Samuel Alderman, Alan “Gene” Alderman and JB Alderman all of Delray; Daryl Alderman of Piolet, Va. and Alvin Alderman of Augusta; a daughter, Phyllis Estes of Winchester, Va.; three brothers, Bernard Alderman of Yakima, Wash.; Douglas MacPherson of Richmond, Va. and Donald MacPherson of Spencer, Va.; five sisters, Mary Alice Turley of Fort Worth, Texas; Lottie Revis of Craigsville, Va.; Loraine Alderman of Jackson, Miss.; Elizabeth Martin of Marlington and Alvonia Smith of Salamanca, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at the Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, Tuesday, March 5, at 11 a.m. with Paul Estes officiating.

Interment was in Green Lane Cemetery, Delray.
