Arnold Ray Whetzel, 79, of Romney and formerly of Rough Run, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at E.A. Hawse Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Baker.

Born June 25, 1933, in Rough Run, he was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Whetzel and Maggie Mae Sites Whetzel. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Candy Whetzel; a son, Aaron Ezekiel Whetzel, as well was two infant sons; a sister, Viola Riggleman; and a brother, Edward Whetzel.

He was a lifelong farmer and was a sawmill worker. He was a member of the New Life Tabernacle Church in Moorefield.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Betty Lou Arbaugh Whetzel; two sons, Jimmy Ray Whetzel, Greenville, S.C. and Arnold Israel Whetzel, Moorefield; three daughters, Arneitha Acosta, Moorefield; Letty Vera, Reading, Pa.; and Arlena Vera, Leesport, Pa.; three sisters, Grace Crites, Nellie Iman and Elsie Keplinger, all of Petersburg; four brothers, Olie Whetzel, Isaac Whetzel, Glenn Whetzel and Johnny Whetzel, all of Petersburg; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with pastor Eugene Whetzel officiating.

Burial was in Whetzel Family Cemetery, Rough Run.
