WASHINGTON D.C. — Senators Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin today announced more than $108,000 in federal funding for three West Virginia fire departments to purchase safety equipment, and strengthen professional training and wellness programs.
“West Virginia’s firefighters are quick to protect our families and neighbors no matter the emergency,” said Rockefeller. “This award will not only provide essential safety equipment, but will also give departments an opportunity to purchase equipment for wellness and fitness programs, and provide top-notch professional training for our first responders. These tools will further equip our firefighters to protect us and keep our families safe around the clock.”
“Our first responders are on the front lines of keeping their communities safe every day, and we want to make sure they’re fully prepared and equipped in their missions,” said Manchin, who worked with the volunteer rescue squad in Marion County. “With these grants, our volunteer fire departments will be able to get more of the equipment and tools they need to protect West Virginians.”
The award will help fund professional training and equipment for wellness programs. It also helps departments obtain emergency vehicles, protective equipment, and other safety supplies. The funding comes from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, a competitive grant program administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The individual award amounts are:
· Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department, Ceredo, $8,312
· Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Company, Fort Ashby, $69,900
· Kenova Volunteer Fire Department, Kenova, $29,811
