Joy Anne Thomas, 61, of Augusta, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va.
Born Sept. 24, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James and Grace Farabee Somerville. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Sheri Cristea; and two sisters, Debbie Kane and Betty Kovar.
She taught school in Hampshire County where she was the sponsor for HOSA. She was a member of the Hampshire County Relay for Life and a member of the Tearcoat Church of the Brethren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and teacher.
Surviving are her husband, Olan Thomas; eight daughters, Tina Hall of Stockport, Ohio; Christina Jackson of Nashville, Tenn., Tennile Martin of Mount Nebo, Samantha Ames of Winchester, Va.; Amanda Cramer of Stephens City, Va., and Mikiala Whitacre, Alisa Thomas and Kyla Thomas, all of Augusta; three sisters, Gail Kovar of North Royalton, Ohio; and Mary Nickum and Michelle Rodriguez, both of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Timothy Somerville of Cleveland, Ohio; and 19 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 4, at the Tearcoat Church of Brethren at 11 a.m. with pastor Tom Rowan officiating.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangements.
