William “Steve” Wise, 91, of Slanesville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Western Maryland Health System, Cumberland, Md.

Born Oct. 13, 1921, in Cowen, he was the son of the late William I. and Margaret Woods Wise. Also preceding him in death were two brothers.

He retired from the State of Maryland as a parole agent. He had earned his doctorate in theology and a master’s in counseling at West Virginia Wesleyan. He was a pastor in the Methodist church for 30 years. He was a member of the Good Sam’s Club where he served as a W.Va. State director for six years. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion Post 137 in Capon Bridge, a member of the Romney VFW 3101, a member of the Romney Moose Lodge 1371 and an honorary member of the Slanesville Vol. Fire Co.

Surviving are his wife, Margie E. Roberts Wise; a son, Donald Wise and wife Kathy of Parkersburg; two daughters, Dreama Swope of Romney and Doris Kelly and husband Richard of Port Orchard, Wash.; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta, with pastors Harold and Cheryl George officiating.

Interment was in Mount Union Cemetery, Slanesville.
