Earl William Wendell, 86, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his home.
Born March 15, 1926, in Laurium, Mich., he was the son of the late Jacob and Hilma (Rutila) Wendell. Also preceding him in death were a son, Aron Earl Wendell; a stepson, Paul Edward Wise; three brothers, Russell Wendell, Raymond Wendell and Les Wendell; and a sister, Evelyn Nazelrod.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WW II.
He retired with 25 years of service at Champion Spark Plug Company, where he had been a supervisor.
He was a member of Fort Ashby VFW Post 6667, where he had been the Quartermaster; a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2883,Cresaptown; American Legion Post 267, Clawson, Mich.; and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1371, Romney.
Surviving are his wife, Cora Frances Steward Wendell; one brother, Gordon Wendell, California; one sister, Lenore Calvert, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted in Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating.
Interment was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, where military honors were accorded.
