The Chili Cook-Off competition on Sunday was a lot of fun as well as providing good chili for everyone. This year's winner was Pat Garber. The second place winner was Jesse Newhouse, and the third place winner was Corky & Nick Buckley. We're expecting an even bigger event next year with over ten new people/groups expressing interest in participating.

Roland Bland, left, and Jeff Fagga, of Romney, completed the Catch the Christmas Spirit 5K run and walk on Dec. 22 among a whirl of leaves on a very windy Saturday morning. Proceeds from the event benefitted Bland, a disabled Army veteran, and his family, who lost their Capon Bridge home to a catastrophic fire on Dec. 1.

Russ Conrad Special to the Review - Emma Benson, Ronnie Cheves and their grown-up companions dig into breakfast with the Easter bunny at the Romney Fire Hall Saturday. The Romney Volunteer Fire Company also had craft booths open during the morning event.
Mike Kastre of Romney serves the last of six Lenten fish frys held this year at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Tradition says the flowers sprang up where drops of Christ’s blood fell to the ground in his final grief-filled hours. They are often called “the white-robed apostles of hope.”
Like several other groups, the women of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Levels use a little secular treat to help fund their church’s ministry.
Mary Stewart, Salina Stewart and Fern Montgomery gathered last Wednesday at Salina’s home in Augusta to make more than 200 peanut butter and chocolate Easter eggs.
They use the Stewart home because there is plenty of table space for making the eggs, which they price at $3.50 each.
“This is a great fundraiser,” Mary Stewart said. “We cleared $300 last year and all of the money goes to sending the church youth to summer camp and help with expenses for Bible school.”
The eggs are available at a few different places throughout the community and they always sell out. Look for them at Doodles Place and at the church.
“We aren’t responsible for any bellyaches,” Mary added.
Submitted by GARY STRAWN
Go, Ears! When a big, wet snow drops on you at the end of March, there’s only one obvious response —build a snow Easter bunny like Gary Strawn did to surprise grandkids (left to right) Dominic, Leah and Andrew.
