MINERAL COUNTY, WV — A man is dead following a crash in Keyser, according to media sources.

It happened Sunday evening on Patterson Creek Road near Route 46.

Police say a man was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control and hit a tree.

Curtis M. Thompson, 23, of Knobley Road, Keyser, died of injuries in the 7:10 p.m. crash, according to Trooper A.R. Hanlon, who is continuing to investigate the accident.

George M. Rohrbaugh Jr., 22, of Keyser was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. No information was available concerning his injuries.

Police said Rohrbaugh was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado with Thompson as a passenger when the vehicle traveled out of control off the roadway and struck a tree.

The Mineral County 911 center said volunteer first-responders from Fountain, Fort Ashby, Short Gap and New Creek responded to the scene along with the Hardy County Medical Examiner’s Office.
