Crafts

The Festival is Rain or Shine.
In the event of rain, crafters and entertainment will move to Romney Elementary School at West Main and School Street.

Artisans on Main Street presents crafters demonstrating heritage crafts such as Windsor chair making, lace making, rug hooking, dress making, chair caning, quilting, pottery, stained glass and blowing, basket making, tole painting, heritage jewelry making. Artisans on Main are still sought for 2008's event.

“Colonial Hampshire” at The Bottling Works, 426 E. Main St. will host artisans from the Colonial and French and Indian war period.   If decorative arts seem appealing, visit the lace makers as they weave single threads on tiny spools around an intricate pattern of pins.  About one square inch per hour is about all a lace maker produces, so the exquisite results require considerable patience.
Spinning
George Washington surveyed Hampshire County’s valleys, and a surveyor using the same instruments as Washington will demonstrate how old surveyors worked.   Ladies will spin and hook rugs, and Indian interpreters will present information about the French and Indian War and the life and times of their tribes.
Rug braiding

Wandering west from the Bottling Works, artisans will be tucked on lawns and in store fronts all up and down Romney's Main Street.   So look for the signs “Artisan Along Main Inside” and visit these fine craftsmen.

Mushroom growing and bee-keeping will also be displayed.

The Craft Market in 2008 will feature vendors offering various hand-made crafts and decorative items for sale.
